Grow, produce and enjoy now and in the future

In our rich history, fair trade and compassion for people and the environment have always been a matter of course. Our aim is therefore to develop our products and services as sustainably and socially responsible as possible, so that they contribute to a future-proof planet.

What is sustainable coffee?

Sustainable coffee is usually recognized by labels, such as the Rainforest Alliance brand. Such a label stands for fair coffee, where good working and production conditions are highly valued. They work closely with local coffee farmers on the plantations to ensure food quality and help develop the community.

Beukenhorst's coffee assortment carries the Rainforest Alliance seal of approval. This emphasizes our vision of fair trade, respect for people and appreciation for our planet.

The best coffee beans
We choose the best Arabica beans for your cup of coffee. These grow on plantations we have carefully chosen in Guatemala, Brazil and Kenya. On high, fertile mountain slopes and under subtropical conditions, our coffee beans are given plenty of time to mature slowly.

Fair trade
Our relationship with coffee farmers is based on mutual respect. We offer a fair price that is on average 40% higher than regular market prices. This enables the farmers to properly reward their people, improve working conditions and grow sustainably.

Global transportation with minimal environmental impact

The journey from our hand-picked coffee beans to our roastery in Lichtenvoorde is mainly by sea. We have various agreements with our transporters that emphasize the use of green energy and compliance with strict food safety requirements.

In addition, we focus on making our fleet more sustainable and delivering our products to all our customers as efficiently as possible. In addition, our freight carrier is also investing in a sustainable service and distribution center for green coffee.

Meet Sento - sustainable coffee with Rainforest Alliance seal of approval

One of Beukenhorst's sustainable coffee brands is Sento Slow Roasted Arabica. This line fully complies with all the conditions of the Rainforest Alliance label. We select only the best 100% Arabica coffee beans for the special Sento blend, which are grown in a sustainable and fair way. Thus, we ensure that farmers receive a fair price so that they can invest in their coffee plantations.

These beans too -just like our other brands- are roasted using traditional methods. This ensures that this sustainable coffee is full of flavor and still contributes to a more sustainable world. In addition to the coffee beans, our Sento line consists of Fairtrade sugar sticks and milk cups, biodegradable coffee cups and matching tableware.

A high-quality, sustainable coffee

Beukenhorst Coffee keeps for a long time, without losing the quality of the beans. After all, we work with high-quality packaging and state-of-the-art technology:

No light or oxygen
Our packaging does not let light through and acts as an insulator. A smart valve discharges the last remaining CO2 without adding oxygen.

A modest stock
In our storage you will not find a huge amount of packaged beans, but a modest stock. So you are always assured of fresh coffee beans.

Efficient packaging
Our efficient packaging ensures that a relatively large amount of coffee can be packed into a compact box. In addition, the size of our transport vehicles is matched to the delivery volume to reduce the impact on the greenhouse effect as much as possible.

Energy-efficient coffee machines without e-waste

Not only our coffee, but our coffee machines are also sustainable:

Energy-saving
All our coffee machines have insulated boilers and go into "energy safe mode" when the machines are not used for a certain period of time.

Water-saving
Our freshbrew machines are equipped with stainless steel filters so you only need to rinse them once a week. The filters leave no waste and last a lifetime.

Long lifetime
Dutch tap water contains calcium that eventually corrodes machine parts. To prevent this, we work with Brita water filters. These filters filter calcium and minerals out of the water and extend the life of a machine considerably. After a certain period of time, the filters are replaced and returned to the manufacturer for reuse.

Recyclable
When a coffee machine is written off, we take out the parts. Through Wecycle, 95% of these parts get a new life.

Sustainability in coffee roasting

Facts & Figures

Even in our coffee roasting plant there are constant developments to minimize the threats to which the climate is exposed. In the points below can be seen what has already been achieved:

Natural gas use

The use of a modern roaster reduces gas consumption per 100 kg of coffee by 63%

Cardboard consumption

By deploying an efficient packaging line, the consumption of cardboard is 70% lower.

Electricity

The electricity used by our coffee roastery is generated by 100% sustainable, green sources.

Water saving

By optimizing roaster insulation, water savings of 63% on 100 kg of roasted coffee are achieved
